Young players protest against PHF Scrutiny Committee’s decision

LAHORE: Young hockey players staged a protest against the scrutiny committee’s decision regarding the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) elections on Wednesday.

Young hockey players demonstrated outside the PHF offices here, shouting anti-PHF slogans and complaining that the new ad hoc system favors their favourites.

Former PHF President and Olympian Salman Akhtar Rasool, Ali Akhtar Rasool, Mujahid Afzal and Muhammad Yaqoob also participated in the protest and accused the current PHF leadership of misconduct.

“Pakistan Hockey Federation awarded their favorite people.

The Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool, Akhtar Rasool, Afzal Muna and Dar families have services for hockey,” Salman said.

Another former hockey player, Yaqoob, on the other hand, called the PHF’s suspension of clubs ‘arbitrariness’ and threatened to shut down the federation if his demands were not met.

“We do not agree with the PHF’s claim that significant clubs were arbitrarily expelled.

We will block the federation if the PHF refuses to grant us our right,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Mujahid made a major claim that he was told to remove Asif Bajwa from the federation presidency and his refusal resulted in the suspension of the Afzal Muna club.

“I was ordered to depose Asif Bajwa as president. Due to my rejection, the Afzal Mana Club vote was cancelled,” he stated.
