The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for what will likely be a season of redemption. After failing to make the play-in last season, several question marks have been raised, particularly around Russell Westbrook and his adjustment.
While head coach Darvin Ham insists the Lakers will look different and he’ll use Westbrook to the best of his ability, it’s still hard to imagine how far that will work.
LeBron and Anthony Davis look healthy and ready to attack the season. They have had a lot of free time and will most likely fix any annoying issues.
But being able to play alongside Westbrook and be effective is a task. They failed last season, so what has changed this season?
Well, according to Darvin Ham himself, it’s defense responsibility that will bring the spark and vigor that the team so badly needs. But how exactly can they track it down and pull it off? An ingenious solution has been devised and Lakers fans will be excited about this one.

The Lakers will keep track of “Kills,” an exciting stat that aims to invigorate LeBron James and company.
Yes, the Lakers have decided to introduce a new stat called “Kills”. So what are “deaths”? If a player makes three defensive saves in a row, it will be counted as a “kill”.
Ingenious, we suppose. The emphasis on defense with a new stat is decided to draw players in like high school coaches used to. And up to a point, it might work.
The newness of the stat will certainly help unite the team on the defensive front, however, will that be enough?
The Lakers operate as an HS team that keeps track of “kills.” As a family, if you don’t go out and play basketball. Something tells me there will be glaring problems within the 25 games of the season.

We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out over the course of the season. LeBron James and company look in good spirits. Spirits are not at all damp from last season’s failures and if there is any indication of what this team will do, it will be defending with all their hearts.
