Stephen Curry scored 41 points on Saturday night, and the Golden State Warriors needed every one of them. The Warriors beat the Orlando Magic 126-119 in overtime at Chase Center in San Francisco, stretching their winning run to seven games.
Golden State looked comfortable for much of the night. The Warriors led by 16 points at halftime, then watched Orlando storm back to force overtime. Curry took over in the final minutes, scoring 19 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
The win moved Golden State to 7-3. The Warriors started the season 0-3, and people were already writing the season off. Now they sit fifth in the Western Conference, and their 38-year-old star is playing some of the best basketball of his career.
Curry Takes Over Late
Orlando led 118-117 in overtime after Tristan da Silva hit a three-pointer with 2 minutes 24 seconds left. It was the Magic’s 18th three-pointer of the night. Then Curry took the game over.
He drove to the basket, scored, and was fouled, completing a three-point play with 1 minute 38 seconds left to put Golden State ahead 120-118. A three-point play means a basket plus one free throw after a foul, so three points from a single attack.
Wendell Carter Jr. had a chance to tie the game for Orlando, but he missed two free throws with 1 minute 15 seconds left. Curry then scored another layup in the final minute to reach 41 points and seal the win.
The finish in regulation was just as wild. Curry scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, including the Warriors’ final 12 points of regulation. His go-ahead layup with 25.2 seconds left looked like the winner, until Orlando’s Jamal Cain grabbed a missed shot and scored on the team’s third try with 2 seconds left to tie the game and force overtime.
Tracking data showed Curry went a perfect four for four on go-ahead shots in the final two minutes of regulation and overtime, the first time any player has done that since tracking began in the 1996-97 season.
Lendeborg Steps Up in Overtime
Curry did not do it alone. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg had the best night of his young career, scoring 23 points with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Lendeborg hit a big three-pointer in overtime and finished the game with a dunk and two free throws. He and Curry scored 12 of Golden State’s 16 points in the extra period.
The Warriors’ bench also made the difference, outscoring Orlando’s second unit 42-31. Every Golden State player who played scored.
Magic Rally Falls Short
Orlando had no reason to give up, and the short-handed Magic nearly stole the game. Golden State led 57-41 at halftime after a strong first half. Then Orlando exploded for 37 points in the third quarter and took a 78-77 lead into the fourth.
The Magic hit 18 three-pointers in the game. Jamal Cain came off the bench for 18 points and 12 rebounds, and his last-second putback in regulation sent the game to overtime.
But the rally came at a cost. Orlando was outrebounded badly on the offensive boards, 24-3, and gave up 26 points off turnovers against only 10 the other way. The loss was Orlando’s fourth in a row, and the Magic came into the game with just two wins.
Why Win Matters for Warriors
For the Warriors, this win was about more than two points in the standings. Golden State started the season 0-3, and the first three games had people asking if the season was already lost. Seven straight wins later, the Warriors are fifth in the West and playing with confidence again. It is their longest winning run since seven in a row in March 2025, and their first seven-game streak without Jimmy Butler since early 2022.
For Curry, the night added another line to a career full of records. The 41 points gave him his second 40-point game of the season and his 16th since turning 35, moving him past LeBron James for the most 40-point games by a player aged 35 or older in NBA history. At 38, in his 18th season, Curry also became only the seventh player ever with 26,000 points, 5,000 rebounds and 6,000 assists.
The Warriors host the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night at Chase Center, looking to make it eight wins in a row.
