“Oi, Kobe Bryant doesn’t need a son for that, I got this!”: Lakers legend recalled how Gigi wanted to play in WNBA, carry on his legacy
Lakers legend Kobe Bryant once spoke with Jimmy Kimmel where he talked about how his daughter Gianna wanted to play for the WNBA.
2020 was not an easy year for any of us. We had to deal with a global pandemic, which locked us all in our homes and disrupted our daily lives. Along with the global pandemic, we also lost one global icon and 13 others on the morning of January 26, 2020.
Kobe Bryant was on his way to his daughter Gianna Bryant’s basketball game in a helicopter when the helicopter lost control. This led to the untimely death of the Lakers legend and everyone else on board, including his 13-year-old daughter.
The whole incident took us all by surprise. They each had their own way of dealing with their pain. One of the things that many people did was share their favorite memories of Kobe. One such memory was shared from an episode of Jimmy Kimmel, where Kobe talked about his daughter Gianna and his dream of playing in the WNBA.

Kobe Bryant described how Gianna would silence others
In 2018, Kobe was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he talked about a lot of things with Jimmy. They talked about LeBron, the Lakers and much more. The two also talked about Kobe’s daughters. While talking about Gianna, Kimmel asked if Gianna might want to play in the WNBA.
Kobe responded and said:
“She does it for sure,” he said. “This kid, man. Dude, man, I’m telling you. The best thing that happens is when we go out, and fans come up to me and she’s going to be standing next to me, and they’re like, ‘You’ve got to have a boy, man. You and [Vanessa] I have to have a child. Somebody carry on the tradition, the legacy. And she says, ‘Hey! I have this! You don’t need no guy for that, I got this.’”

What happened on January 26 was a terrible tragedy. From the looks of it, we not only lost one of basketball’s greatest players, but a future WNBA star as well.
