Michael Jordan’s fondness for gambling is widely documented. The game was as much a part of Jordan’s life as basketball, from casino nights to gambling with his teammates.

Jordan, in particular, enjoyed betting with his teammates, whether it was shooting contests or, unfortunately for Scottie Pippen, Jumbotron races.

There are numerous anecdotes about Scottie Pippen and his incredible friendship with Michael Jordan. They formed one of the best NBA duos in history, leading the Chicago Bulls to six championships in the 1990s.

Despite the ups and downs of their friendship, Pippen and Jordan were always there for each other. That doesn’t mean they didn’t make fun of or cheat on each other. In fact, when MJ tricked Scottie into betting on jumbotron races, she pulled one of the biggest pranks on him.

Jordan was an avid gambler who was always trying to persuade people to bet with him on everything. Pippen was one of those people. ESPN’s Amin Elhassan told the story of Jordan causing Pippen to lose hundreds of dollars with set-up jumbotron runs in 2016.

Michael Jordan was a fierce competitor who despised losing at just about anything. The Bulls standout was also a compulsive gambler, engaging in ridiculous bets with teammates and friends.

According to ESPN’s Amin Elhassan, Jordan discovered one day that the animated bull runs being shown on the Bulls’ Jumbotron were pre-recorded. So he began asking the Bulls’ operations staff which colored bull would win the race that night before each game.

They would tell him, and Jordan would use that information to trick teammate Scottie Pippen into a bet.

So, if the Jumbotron race happened during a timeout, Jordan would bet Pippen $100 that he could correctly predict the winner. Pippen would take the bet, unaware that Jordan had inside information on the race, only to immediately lose it.

According to Elhassan, Jordan did this for most of the season, and Pippen simply went along with it, losing $100 to his teammate in each home game. A tough NBA season 170 days, so you can imagine Scottie’s plight.

Jordan is making a big joke here. His Airness was a troll for all time, and this shows it. Unfortunately for Pippen, he fell victim to this one, but none of that matters when you win so many games alongside No. 23.
