President’s chief security officer Bilal Sheikh killed in bomb blast
President Asif Ali Zardari’s chief security officer, Bilal Sheikh was among three people killed in a blast targeting a double cabin vehicle in the Gurumandir area of Karachi on Wednesday.
Bilal Sheikh was traveling in his bullet-proof vehicle that was ahead of his police security squad. Reports indicate that at least 12 people have been injured in the blast.
Four of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
According to reports, a bomb blast occurred near New Town mosque in Gorumandar area.
The rescue teams and security forces rushed to the blast site and shifted the injured to hospital. A shopkeeper was also killed in the attack.
According to police, the chief security officer of President, Bilal Sheikh vehicle stopped near fruit shop when the bomber attacked Bilal vehicle. A police mobile van was also escorting Bilal Sheikh, which also destroyed in the blast. Three police guards were also killed in the attack. Seven policemen were also among the injured.
According to police, the blast was suicide.
The injured were shifted to civil hospital. Two of the injured were in critical condition. The nearby shops and vehicles were also damaged in the explosion.
President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the attack. The blast has also been condemned by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and MQM chief Altaf Hussain who offered his condolences to President Zardari during a telephone call.
