Petrol now costs Rs346 a litre in Pakistan, after the government cut the price by Rs6.59 in its fifth straight reduction.
New fuel prices
| Fuel | Old price | New price | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs352.59 | Rs346 | -Rs6.59 |
| High-speed diesel | Rs382.25 | Rs378 | -Rs4.25 |
High-speed diesel is down by Rs4.25 a litre, to Rs378. The new rates took effect on Saturday, 7 November, and run until Tuesday, 10 November, according to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).
Why prices fell
Before the change, petrol was selling at Rs352.59 a litre and diesel at Rs382.25. The cut follows a steady fall in global oil prices, with Brent crude heading for its biggest weekly decline since 2020.
The Petroleum Division issued the notification on Friday, 6 November, after Ogra revised prices under the mechanism approved by the federal government. Because 9 November is a public holiday, the revised rates were set for four days instead of the usual shorter window.
What it means for drivers
Taxes remain heavy. The government continues to levy Rs114 a litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 a litre on diesel, Dawn reported. That means most of what a motorist pays at the pump is still tax, even after the cut.
For drivers, the saving is modest but real. A 40-litre fill of petrol now costs about Rs264 less than it did a day earlier. For a diesel vehicle covering long distances, the saving adds up faster, and transport operators usually pass part of any sustained fall through to fares and freight charges over time.
What happens next
The fifth consecutive cut is the longest run of reductions in recent months. The previous cut, announced on 6 November, had already brought petrol down by Rs9.41 to Rs352.59. Whether the run continues will depend on international crude prices and the rupee, both of which have moved in Pakistan’s favour in recent days.
Ogra is expected to announce the next revision when the current window ends on 10 November. Until then, filling stations across the country will sell at the new rates, and anyone who filled up on Friday will have paid the old price for the last time this week.
