Paul Pierce Lays Down the 1 Condition for LBJ to Overcome Michael Jordan
The LA Lakers’ recent victory over the Milwaukee Bucks has done a lot of good for the franchise before the playoffs arrive. The victory not only instilled confidence in the team, but also started several conversations about the team’s postseason hopes. Recently, Paul Pierce went out on a limb by saying that if the Lakers manage to bounce back from now on and end up winning the Championship, LeBron James would become the undisputed GOAT for him.
The NBA veteran said today on FS1 INDISPUTABLE, that no other team has managed to recover from ninth place, and if the Lakers somehow manage to do it, LeBron would take over Michael Jordan’s leadership position in the GOAT conversation.
He said, “If the Lakers make it to the Finals and win a championship this year, LeBron James would be the undisputed GOAT.” Interestingly, Pierce was saying all of this to the face of Skip Bayless, who is known for his “hot” opinions on LBJ.
Earlier this month, Bayless stated that he doesn’t value LeBron’s record of 40,000 points in 21 seasons as much as others. The 72-year-old added: “Before 40,000 points, I had LeBron in ninth place on my all-time list. After 40,000 points, I still have LeBron in ninth place on my all-time list. Because playing longer does not make you better or more valuable.”
It’s pretty obvious that I wouldn’t agree with Pierce about LeBron being the undisputed GOAT even if he meets the condition. But when you look at it, Pierce’s claim seems like something that has little to no chance of happening.
Can Paul Pierce’s wish come true?
Although sports are based on the philosophy of “nothing is impossible,” statistics and records often serve as revelations. So while Pierce is comfortably praying for a comeback like no other, the record books suggest we haven’t really seen anything like it before. The lowest seed The ones who ever won the NBA title are the 1994-95 Houston Rockets, who bounced back from sixth place and finished as champions.
Based on that alone, Pierce’s dreams could be shattered. As we look deeper, the lowest seed for the NBA Finals berth is tied between two teams, the 1999 Knicks and the 2023 Heat. Both teams placed eighth and then advanced all the way to the finals. Given that the lowest seeding record belongs to the Rockets, the Lakers being seeded ninth to win the title seems like a pipe dream.
