Despite $55 million, Karl Malone offered $25,000 in hush money after an illegal hunting trip

Karl Malone had reportedly offered a former business associate of his $25,000 to take the blame for some illegal activity of his.

Karl Malone grew up in the South, so his love of hunting and fishing gained him when he was still very young. Of course, he never took it as more than a hobby, as he was too busy being a two-time NBA MVP while establishing himself as one of the greatest power forwards of all time.

Unfortunately for ‘The Mailman’, he was never able to achieve the one true goal any athlete strives for and that is the ever so elusive championship. Constant trips to the Playoffs led to disappointing postseason results.

He would lead the Jazz to the Finals 2 years in a row, but Michael Jordan would top him every time.

After Malone retired without a ring, he had amassed a respectable amount of money (reported current net worth of $55 million), and thus could essentially live life any way he chose.

He decided to take more frequent hunting and fishing trips and well, this did not go very well for him.

Karl Malone was sued for illegally hunting elk.

Karl Malone kept his love of hunting alive while playing in the NBA, but he was sued by Sidney Ray Davis of Soda Springs. The lawsuit claimed that Malone had offered him $25,000 as a bribe to take the blame for illegally hunting a moose.

Davis even alleged that Malone’s brother-in-law, Ken Kensey, had threatened him with “physical violence” if he didn’t take the hush money. Both Sidney and Karl had met at a hunting show and had, in fact, hunted moose together on winter trips.

However, on one such trip, Malone fired a stray bullet into the snow while trying to hit a moose. Officers arrived on the scene and it was revealed that Davis had failed to provide him with the proper owner’s permits.

The lawsuit filed by Sidney Ray Davis was eventually expelled by a judge in eastern Idaho. In fact, Karl Malone would hit back at Davis with a countersuit worth more than 0,000.
