Caitlin Clark Reflects on How Women’s Basketball Has Evolved Over Her 4 Years of College
Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes recently defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders in a round of 16 matchup of the women’s NCAA tournament, with a final score of 91-65, according to ESPN. Clark didn’t have the best game, shooting just 8 of 19 from the field (42%) and just 3 of 9 from three-point range (33.3%). AP News. Despite this, he finished the game with 27 points and 10 assists, highlighting his game-creating ability.
After the contest, the Iowa star stopped to speak with ESPN, where she was asked how much the fan base for the women’s game had grown.
On the sports network instagram postClark added, “I think there have been a lot of little moments. “I think just the crowd at our games, but also the people who scream and want our autographs.”
He also added the feeling when people shout his name in the stands, “People just scream my name constantly, and I think that’s something that never gets old and something that we can’t take for granted. I think even when you’re away from home… people come up to you to support your team… I think that’s the best thing.
Comparing the increase in attention given to the Women’s NCAA, Clark praised the enthusiasm fans have shown.
“I think overall the excitement around this tournament is great.
People are more excited about the female side than the male side, and I think that’s obviously something that’s never happened before…”
Clark also talked about the lack of attention women’s soccer received when she was a freshman at Iowa, and how they couldn’t even use the ‘March Madness’ brand. And, in fact, there has been a huge change.
As for fan reactions, as expected, many criticized the sharpshooter for saying that the women’s competition was getting more attention than the men’s version of the collegiate competition this year. However, several legends have publicly agreed with this idea, including NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.

Joining the bandwagon, singer Tim McGraw was also seen sporting his shirt during a concert appearance.
Clark may not even be a professional basketball player yet. However, as an icon, he has already transcended many who came before him, regardless of his gender.
