By-polls, long march: Shah Mahmood Qureshi likely to visit Lahore today
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Shah Mahmood Qureshi is likely to visit Lahore today ahead of the secondary votes and the long march, citing sources, SIAL NEWS reported.
The sources said that Shah Mahmood Qureshi will meet with PTI Punjab leaders during his visit to Lahore. The PTI vice president will also hold meetings on the voting and the long march, the sources added.
Previously, PTI invited party ticket requests into 20 vacant seats after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) dismissed 20 Punjab Assembly lawmakers for voting for Hamza Shahbaz during the Punjab Chief Minister election.
The last date for submitting applications is June 1 and application forms can be purchased from the PTI official website, while information can also be obtained from the president of the concerned district and the party’s secretariat in Punjab.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that by-elections in 20 general seats of the Punjab Assembly will be held on July 17.
The ECP has announced the timetable for the election of 20 vacant provincial seats after defecting MPAs from the PTI were removed from office.
According to the schedule, nomination papers for the by-election could be filed June 4-7.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on June 11, the ECP said.
The candidates will be announced election symbols on June 24, while voting will take place on July 17.
The ECP had overthrown 25 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dissident MPAs who voted for Hamza Shahbaz Sharif of PML-N in the election of the Prime Minister of Punjab.
The electoral body had withheld its verdict on the reference seeking the disqualification of 25 dissident PTI MPAs from the Punjab Assembly. Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi sent a referral against 25 members, including five members in reserved seats.
