Another Travis Scott Air Jordan collaboration – will the desecration finally end with the Air Jordan 7?
Travis Scott got 3 models from the Air Jordan line; it is rumored that he is victim number 4.
The Air Jordan 4 Cactus Jacks were a breath of fresh air when they were shown to the public. Sneaker culture was getting stale at the time, with Drake throwing out nonsensical OVO collabs and Adidas doing a bunch of Yeezy 350s. 2018 was a weird year for sneakers because the market was peaking, but certain pairs were not yet so marked. And then the 4 came along, and they ruined everything.
All 4 looked crazy, with baby blue and red accents all over the shoe. The colors were inspired by the now defunct Houston Oilers and they worked really well. Perhaps because similar colors worked for the Eminem 4 as well. Once the public saw this pair, along with the previously unreleased Friends and Family exclusive, the market skyrocketed. And it hasn’t gone down since.
Fans of the controversial rapper wanted similar material, but he took the opposite path. His next models were the Air Jordan 6 and Air Jordan 1, which featured heavy brown schemes, almost matching the colors of his Lamborghini Urus or his infamous Batman costume. Yeah, they sold a lot of them, but there’s nothing special about inverting a swoosh or adding a “stuff” pocket.
The Air Jordan lineup has always been known to steer clear of wood colors, but for some reason, the rapper insists they be different saturations of the same color. Much like his predecessor in the rap game, Kanye West, Travis seems to really enjoy earth tones.
Nike is bringing collaborations to everyone right now – Travis Scott is another big name who can’t design cool shoes
Does anyone already keep track of the shoes? Every day, there’s a new color scheme, a slightly updated material, or a retro release. This abnormal pumping in the market needs to be stopped before the market stalls. Oh no, you already have it. The resale market is about to witness the biggest drop, and collaborations like these are why.
Michael Jordan is a name that should be treated like royalty. He built a brand for himself, based solely on the applause he deserved. Until recently, no one who was not an athlete came to work in sportswear. They have to support it, sure, but never design it. And Kanye came in, breaking barriers. And minds too, not just his fans. Fame and power went to his head, and now he’s bipolar.
Nike should stop desecrating what was once a coveted name. Stick to the basics, keep it simple, and don’t overwhelm the market with unwanted collaborations. No one asked for brown hiking boots to look like shoes, especially from a guy named Jacques Bermon Webster II.
