Virat Kohli hits 49th ODI ton
The 49th ODI ton was on the line from the last few matches. Kohli came close in the match against New Zealand but fell short by just 5 runs. Against England he was dismissed for a duck and in the last match against Sri Lanka he came close but was dismissed in the 88th minute.
But today, playing on his 35th birthday, Kohli looked confident right from the start of this innings. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a flying start but it was Kohli and Iyer who built the innings after both openers departed. With the pitch turning slow and displaying a variety of spins, Kohli had to fight the odds to make the century from him.
“I thank God for giving me the opportunity to play and contribute to the success of the team. It’s cool to get a hundred dollars on my birthday in front of this big crowd in this big place. The pitch is slower and we also have a quality bowling team, but we will have to work hard.
