Terrorist Attack in Supermarket Peshawar, 34 Killed Over 100 Injured
PESHAWAR: Two blasts in the Khyber Supermarket area of Peshawar killed 34 people and injured 94 people, Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain confirmed.
According to reports, a cylinder blew up in a restaurant bustling with customers. As rescue workers, and journalists reached the spot to tend to those affected by the blast, another blast, of much greater intensity tore through the area.
Officials confirmed that the explosions were timed.
While the bomb squad claimed that at least one of the explosions was a suicide blast.
Some eyewitnesses at the site claimed that up to eight dead bodies had been pulled from the rubble. They say that the death toll could be higher, with many of the injured in critical condition.
The blasts were heard miles away and caused extensive damage to buildings around the blast site. One building was partially destroyed.
Majority of those injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, while some were rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). tenormin
Police and rescue teams had reached the area and pulled ut survivors from the rubble.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik had condemned the blast.
A number of journalists frequent the spot, as some of the offices of newspapers are located nearby.
