Science subjects gaining popularity among Pakistani students

Science subjects are gaining popularity among students and recently many Pakistani students won prizes in London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) and Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) also encourages the students by providing awards and prizes to the winners of science competitions as well as support Pakistani students to participate in the International Scientific events.

According to sources, Chairman PSF Dr. Manzoor H Soomro said ” PSF promotes such research and educational programs directly or in collaboration with other governmental and non-governmental organizations”. The Chairman said they would continue to support and help in arranging such activities. He also talked about PSF Inquiry-Based Science Learning Program initiated to polish youth’s talent and thinking approach. Spokesperson PSF, Rehana Batool said Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) and PSF have also joined hands to promote the science at the rural level around the country. She said PSF is working with other organizations that have networks and outreach in rural communities to take science out of laboratories and bring it to people.

Besides, PSF also arranges science caravans or mobile Science exhibition, mounted on specially designed vehicles. They consist of display items like Panel Exhibits having photographs and write-ups, equipment, inflatable planetarium, documentaries, microscopes, computers, laser holograms and working models reflecting various phenomena of physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology.

At present, nine Science Caravan Units are in operation, two for each of the four provinces and one is stationed at Islamabad. Besides, seeing the trend of students towards Science subjects, Pakistan Science Club also arranges different activities to provide a forum to them to exhibit their hidden talent.

President National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) Aftab Ahmad said “NAYS wants to promote culture of scientific thinking especially in rural areas, as we want to initiate rational thinking and decision making which is necessary for sustainable development”.
