‘Root has minimum five years so Tendulkar’s record is achievable’ Ross Taylor
LONDON: Former New Zealand captain Ross Taylor has backed England batsman Joe Root to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most Test runs, claiming the former has a minimum of five years left.
Root, who recently completed 10,000 runs in the game’s longest format in the midst of the recently concluded Lord’s Test, is highly motivated as the former Kiwi captain backed him to break Indian heavy batsman Tendulkar’s record.
“Root has a minimum of five years left so I think Tendulkar’s record is very achievable,” Taylor told Sky Sports.
“Root is hitting as well as I’ve ever seen him hit in the last 18 months to two years. He is in the prime of his career, so there are 15,000+ races for him if he stays healthy,” he added.
After his amazing hit of the century in the Lord’s Test, Root joined the exclusive club of legendary batsmen with over 10,000 Test runs.
Tendulkar, who leads the table with the most runs in the format (15,921 runs) has gotten a new challenger for his staggering record, as former England captain Root is the closest current player to have just passed the 10,000-runs mark to an age. 31 years old.

It is pertinent to mention here that Tendulkar also achieved the 10,000 runs mark at age 31 and continued to play Tests well into his 40th birthday.
