PM Nawaz Sharif rejects summary hike in POL products prices

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif rejected the summary presented by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), suggesting an increase in oil prices, and asked the authority to carry the previous prices.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had mailed a summary for increase in POL products’ prices, up to Rs. 5.22 per liter, but PM Sharif did not approve it.

The OGRA summary, mailed to the Finance and Petroleum ministries, suggested to mount petrol price by Pe. 0.85 per liter, High Speed Diesel by Re. 1.34, Kerosene Oil Re. 1.18, Light Diesel Re. 0.82, and High Octane by Rs. 5.22 per liter.

After rejection of POL products’ price hike and the OGRA summary by the premier, the government has decided to retain existing rates in December.

According to the Finance Ministry, the government will render subsidy of 2.

8 billion rupees by not increasing cost of the petroleum products’ prices in next month.
