Former Sixers point guard Ben Simmons talks about his experience playing in Philadelphia.

It’s been a rough ride for Ben Simmons after the 2021 playoffs, and he has yet to play a game since. Chosen by the Sixers as the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft, many analysts and pundits doubted the Australian native’s fitness levels, but they were proven wrong when Big Ben lifted the ROTY award.

Longtime NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith described Simmons as LeBron James 2.0 without a jump shot. While the 26-year-old masked the lack of a jumper with his elite playing skills and defense, it was only a matter of time before he came after him.

The 2021 playoffs had the 6-foot-11 guard in the most vulnerable state of his entire career, with teams heavily exploiting the former Sixers guard’s inability to shoot, coining terms like Hack-A-Simmons. The semifinals against Trae Young and the Hawks turned out to be the final nail in the coffin.

During a recent episode of The Old Man & The Three podcast, Simmons finally opened up about his relationship with the city of Philadelphia today.

The latest example of this is the case of Ben Simmons. The three-time All-Star was heavily criticized and mocked for his performance in the 2021 playoffs, and things took a turn for the worse after his demand to be traded.

Ultimately, Simmons would get away with it, being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in the middle of the 2021-22 season. However, he still hasn’t played a game after his last horrible outing on the floor in the 2021 playoffs. Speaking with his former Sixers teammate JJ Redick, Simmons had this to say.

“People in Philly have something to say about fucking anything, literally everything.”

The former Sixers guard cited instances where he was harassed for posting photos of his cars and his dog.

“In my experience, playing there was amazing, for the most part, it was amazing. I had a great time. Like, the fans are amazing. I still have an apartment there. I feel like I’m still a part of Philly.

Despite being considered the town’s greatest enemy, Simmons continues to cherish his time in Philly, revealing that he still has friends there, and that his brother lives there as well. Though only time will tell if fans forgive him.
