Jaiswal set for T20I debut, last chance for Sanju
India are on the verge of a series defeat in T20Is for the first time in two years and to prevent that, India are likely to send SOS to Yashasvi Jaiswal to strengthen battingin 3rd T20.
Team India are on the verge of losing their first bilateral T20 series in two years. 0-2 down, Hardik Pandya & Rahul Dravid need to address a few things in India Playing XI for the IND vs WI 3rd T20. One of them is adding batting firepower. India’s batting has looked out of sorts in both T20s with Tilak Varma only positive so far. To strengthen, India Cricket Team are likely to hand T20I debut to Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, with Kuldeep Yadav suffering a thumb injury, Ravi Bishnoi is set to continue. It is also set to be the last chance for Sanju Samson who has failed to fire in both.
Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan’s opening pair has been poor so far. The duo has added 5 and 16 for the opening stand so far with Shubman Gill (3 & 7) being the first to fall in both.
To address that, India will add Yashasvi Jaiswal who was in blazing form in his debut Test campaign. With Shubman and Jaiswal opening, India will have their two best Indian batters in IPL 2023 hoping to give the team a good start.
That will mean Ishan Kishan will have to either be benched or dropped to No 3. Even though Tilak Varma has done well at No 4 and Suryakumar Yadav still struggling to find his groove in the Caribbean, Ishan may be used as a floater.
If Ishan stays in, it will force Mukesh Kumar out of the XI. As spin and slower bowlers have done well so far, it is only expected that three spinners will be mandatory.
But if India go in with a five-member bowling attack, both Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel have to bowl a full four-over quota. So far, Axar has only bowled two overs in the first T20.
What to expect in IND vs WI 3rd T20?
- To prevent a rare series loss, Team India will need to strengthen its batting.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal has so far warmed the bench and witnessed the opening pair fail in both.
- With limited options on the bench, it is Ishan Kishan who will either have to make way or drop down in the batting order.
- Shubman Gill will retain his spot despite poor returns as the team management will want him to regain form ahead of Asia Cup 2023.
- India have two options. Option 1: Drop Ishan and use Sanju Samson as the keeper. In this, India’s batting depth will remain weak.
- Option 2: Keep Ishan Kishan as a floater and drop Mukesh Sharma. In this, Axar Patel will have to bowl the full four-over quota.
- Whether Sanju Samson gets three consecutive matches is a big question. He has so far not been picked for all three matches. If he does get another opportunity, it will be his last chance to impress selectors for Asia Cup 2023 with Shreyas Iyer still not out of the woods.
In bowling, Hardik Pandya has done well as a frontline seamer. However, both Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar have blown hot and cold. It is likely that Mukesh Kumar will be dropped from India Playing XI in any case. He may be dropped to keep Ishan in or for Avesh Khan.
Arshdeep Singh is likely to continue to be the second seamer. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi will be the two leg-spinners with Kuldeep Yadav nursing a thumb injury.
