History created, Afghanistan qualifies for Champions Trophy 2025

The Afghanistan cricket team will appear for the first time in the Champions Trophy 2025, after missing out on the 2017 event.

Afghanistan continued to give millions of people at home a reason to celebrate as they qualified for the first time for the Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played in Pakistan. Afghanistan’s participation in the main event was confirmed after Sri Lanka’s defeat to Bangladesh in yesterday’s World Cup. The two Asian teams join England and Holland as eliminated from the World Cup.

Only eight teams can qualify for the Champions Trophy. Pakistan will automatically qualify as they are the host nation. In addition to Pakistan and Afghanistan, India, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia have booked their places for the CT 2017 event. Two places are still to be confirmed for the main event.

How did the Afghanistan cricket team qualify for the Champions Trophy?

Without a doubt, Afghanistan has been a revelation in the World Cup so far. Going into the main event, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team had won just one game in the 2015 and 2019 editions of the World Cup. However, in the World Cup the Afghans defeated England, Pakistan and the Netherlands and had hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals.

They still have two games left to play against Australia and South Africa. Afghanistan needs to win both matches to secure a place in the semi-finals. While the task is difficult, it is certainly not impossible, as the Afghans have enough firepower and common sense.

Today the Afghans will play against Australia in Mumbai.
