FBI to help investigators track down killers of Chaudhry Aslam
Authorities have decided to seek US intelligence agency’s assistance in tracking down the culprits involved in the assassination of SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam who was killed in a suicide car bomb blast in Karachi on Thursday.
Police and security agencies are investigating the case from different angles, especially on how information of the top anti-terror police officer’s route was leaked out which enabled the terrorists to target his convoy, officials said.
“It will be technical assistance for which a team of US Federal Bureau of Investigation will come to Karachi,” an official spoke to SAMAA, revealing that over 200 people have so far been interrogated by the investigators, whereas 35 persons have recorded their statements.
He said that preparation of DNA report would take 15 more days.
“The investigators from FIA, CID, SIU and other institutions have failed to reach a final point,” he said.
In this connection, the probe team has acquired mobile phone data of police officers who were part of Chaudhry Aslam’s squad. They said mobile phone companies have been approached for access to call data record of the Eisa Nagri locality along the Lyari expressway in Karachi’s outskirts, sources said.
Police claimed that a bomber who targeted the convoy through an explosive-laded car has been identified as Naeemullah and his father, younger brother and few friends have also been taken into custody.
Family members told investigator that Naeemullah had been missing for the last one year.
The police investigation team is hunting for mastermind of the blast and collaborators of the bomber.
More body parts have been found from the crime scene.
Case of the incident was registered on Saturday with PIB Police Station on the complaint of Inspector Malik Adil.
TTP chief Fazlullah, spokesman Shahidullah Shah and other militants were been nominated in the FIR.
According to sources, investigators have rounded up three more suspects from Orangi Town, Mangho Pir and Baldia Town. Weapons and explosives have also been recovered from their possession. – SAMAA
