'Didn't perform well' Wasim on Faheem's exclusion from central contract

KARACHI: Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim spoke for the first time about the exclusion of fast bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf from recently announced Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) core contracts for 2022-23 .

Fast bowling all-rounder Faheem, who is considered an integral part of Pakistan’s red ball squad and a constant fixture in the team’s recent match rosters, could not be found on the list of players named in the newly revealed core contracts. .

In response to the presenter’s question about Faheem’s exclusion from the PCB Core Contracts in the ARY News Sports Room (Eid Special), Wasim stated that the all-rounder was not selected in the contract due to his below-average performance in the last 12 years. month, however, he stated that he is still a part of the team’s future plans.

“Playing in the team does not guarantee the inclusion of a player in central contracts. The criteria are simple and include performance over the previous 12 months, our plans for the next 12 months, and role in the team, as well as automatic selection,” Wasim replied.

“In addition, it includes some other factors such as commitment, physical form and the degree of participation in the national circuit,” he said.

The head of selection then clarified that Faheem’s exclusion from core contracts does not rule him out of the team’s future plans.

“No one said that Faheem is not part of our future plans. The biggest proof of that is that he accompanies the team on their tour of Sri Lanka,” Wasim stated.

“It’s important to note that it’s not like we never pick a player who isn’t part of core contracts; rather, this is a common practice throughout the world.

Many players who are not covered by contracts represent their teams,” he stressed.

Asked about left-handed starter Imam-ul-Haq, who was awarded Category B in cue-ball cricket despite ranking second in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings, Wasim stated that the policy does not allow double promotion.

“Without a doubt, Imam’s performance has improved a lot. He was in Category C contracts last year, so he was promoted. biaxin

He made runs in domestic cricket and was featured on the red ball side, and he performed well, so he was promoted,” Wasim said.

“Double promotion, however, is not the criteria, which means that a player cannot be promoted by two categories. On the other hand, I would say the key is how many match-winning performances a player has produced,” he concluded.
