Punjab Kings are closing in on a blockbuster trade that would bring Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya to the franchise ahead of IPL 2027, according to reports published on Tuesday. Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod would move in the opposite direction under the reported deal.

Such a swap would matter because it would change the balance of both squads before the retention deadline, giving Punjab a proven match-winner and giving Mumbai a strike bowler with Indian conditions experience.

Senior managements of both franchises have all but agreed the exchange, Sportstar reported, and the paperwork is expected to go to IPL officials before an announcement later this week.

The Hindu/Sportstar, NDTV Sports and Outlook India all carried the same Sportstar report on Tuesday, but neither franchise nor the IPL has confirmed the trade, and no official comment was available.

Reports said the first approach came from a senior Mumbai Indians official, while Punjab are coached by Ricky Ponting and captained by Shreyas Iyer.

Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash trade from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024, after captaining Gujarat Titans to the title in 2022, according to the reports.

In IPL 2026, the reports said, Hardik scored 206 runs in 10 matches at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.26, with a highest score of 40.

Arshdeep was released by Punjab before the 2025 mega auction and then brought back through the Right to Match after Sunrisers Hyderabad raised their bid from Rs 15.75 crore to Rs 18 crore, which Punjab matched, the reports said.

He took 14 wickets in 13 matches in IPL 2026 at an economy rate of 10.21, according to the reports.

Reports also said Punjab could approach Lucknow Super Giants over a separate swap involving Mohsin Khan and Marcus Stoinis if Arshdeep leaves.

Mumbai had earlier held advanced talks with Kolkata Knight Riders, according to the reports, before the Punjab discussions gained pace.

Vishnu Vinod, the third player in the reported exchange, would complete the balance of the deal if the paperwork is finalised as described in the reports.

For Punjab, the reported move would follow a period of rebuilding around a settled leadership group, while Mumbai would be reshaping a squad that has long relied on Hardik as a core all-rounder.

Nothing in the reports amounts to confirmation, because both clubs and the IPL have yet to confirm the deal, and the next known date is November 17, the retention deadline, which was extended from November 15.
