Cricket Australia likely to lift lifetime captaincy ban from Warner: Reports

MELBOURNE: Cricket Australia (CA) is likely to consider lifting the lifetime ban on its left-handed starter David Warner, The West Australian newspaper has reported.

According to the details, Warner, who faced a lifetime ban from leadership roles by the CA after the infamous 2018 ball-tampering scandal, may now have a leadership role as the body is likely to of cricket review your decision.

During a test match against South Africa in 2018, Australian starter Camron Bancroft was caught altering the condition of the ball with sandpaper. Following investigation by CA, then-captain Steve Smith, vice-captain Warner and starter Bancroft were charged with the misconduct.

The investigation revealed that Warner was the mastermind behind the shameful act and therefore received the heaviest punishment. While Bancroft was banned from playing for nine months, Smith and Warner were banned for a full year.

Additionally, Warner received a lifetime ban from the team’s leadership positions, while Bancroft and Smith received shorter bans of one and two years, respectively.

However, according to the recent Australian newspaper report, the CA will review Warner’s lifetime ban in July. And the decision is claimed to be an attempt to try to persuade Warner to play in the Big Bash (BBL) again, with the league suffering from dwindling interest.

Going forward, BBL general manager Alistair Dobson has also hinted at Warner’s return to the league as captain, in an interview with local media house News Corp.

“I know we’d love to have Dave on the BBL and if there are other things that need to happen to make that possible, that’s for others to figure out,” Dobson said. “David has been a great champion of Australian cricket and he is a player we would love to have in the BBL,” said Dobson.

“We know he has a great history with the Sydney Thunder and we would love for all Australian players to play in the BBL if they are available.

If there is a way for David to find his way on a BBL roster, I think that would be huge,” he concluded.
