Caleb Plant Get Knocked Out by Canelo Alvarez?
Caleb Plant – Former IBF super middleweight world champion Caleb Plant is set to return to the ring this weekend. This will be his second fight since he lost his title to undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez. And while he scored an impressive knockout victory over Anthony Dirrell in his last fight, we look back at his loss to Canelo Alvarez and see where it all went wrong.
Plant will take on Benavidez in what can only be described as a grudge match. The two have been at odds with each other for almost five years. And the former IBF champion will be hoping for a better start than his fight against Canelo Alvarez.
Caleb Plant vs. Canelo Alvarez: Where did it go wrong?
Plant faced Alvarez in 2021, in the same venue where he will face David Benavidez this weekend. And he came into the fight as the big underdog, similar to this fight against Benavidez. However, things started out well for Plant. He won the first round on all three judges’ scorecards.
However, after the first round, Álvarez showed his class. Although Plant exceeded everyone’s expectations, Álvarez dominated the fight. The Mexican took control of the ring, knocking Plant down and throwing ferocious combinations. Throughout the fight, Alvarez hurt Plant with the left hook.
Ultimately, it was the left hook that led to Plant’s downfall. After 10 rounds of entertaining boxing, Alvarez caught Plant with a ferocious left hook in the eleventh. This rocked Plant, and the Mexican followed with two more powerful punches that sent Plant to the ground for the first time in his career.
Although the American recovered, Álvarez smelled blood and did not let Plant recover. He pushed forward and landed powerful combinations until he knocked out Caleb Plant. It was another dominating performance from one of the most dominant champions in the sport.
So Plant will hope that his visit to the MGM Grand this weekend is better than the last.
