10 persons died after taking toxic syrup in Lahore
LAHORE (November 25, 2012): At least 10 people were killed after drinking toxic medicine in Shahdara Town area in Lahore.
Police said that the condition of 16 persons in Shahdara Town deteriorated after drinking the toxic medicine that they had bought from the two local medical stores. They were rushed to the Mayo Hospital where 6 persons had died three days ago, while 4 expired Saturday night and the remaining 6 are still under treatment in the hospital.
Shahbaz, Ramzan, Pervaiz, Sikandar, Hafeez, Abdul Sattar, Rafaqat, Babar and Bilal are included among the dead.
The deceased used to take cough syrup for intoxication, police said.
Police taking the owners of two medical stores into custody have sent the toxic syrup sample to the laboratory for test.
Meanwhile, police have sealed three medical stores in the area while several people were also taken into custody. According to police, the heirs of deceased have not lodged any FIR as yet.
