Waqar’s report destroyed my career, I want it to be made public: Shehzad

LAHORE: Pakistan Test cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has criticized former bowling coach Waqar Younis for holding his career in check and demanded that the report that shut him out of international cricket be made public.

Speaking to the media, Shehzad blamed Waqar, who had reported on the leadoff batsman’s conduct, for taking his run into the corner.

“My career was cornered by the Waqar Younis report against me,” he said. “I made numerous attempts to get to the report, but to no avail,” he added.

Shehzad demanded that the report and its contents be disclosed in order to rectify his own mistakes.

“I want the report by virtue of which they have left me out of the team to be made public,” he said.

‘”Whatever is in the report needs to be explained, because I have suffered a lot because of it. If I’ve done something wrong, let me know, let me be punished, but don’t put my career on the line,” he added.

The 30-year-old slugger also expressed his discomfort at not being part of the PCB conditioning camp for player training that takes place at the National High Performance Center (NHPC).

“I don’t know why they didn’t call me for the conditioning camp.

I also wanted to join the camp and receive quality training,” she maintained.

Shehzad last represented Pakistan in 2019 during the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, in which Ahmed was eliminated after the first two matches and failed to find a place in the Playing XI in the final match.

Ahmed questioned his sudden drop from the team and claimed that he was not given a full opportunity during the series.

“They didn’t give me a full chance in the last series against Sri Lanka and I stayed out of the team in the middle,” he concluded.
