Shohidul Islam suspended for breaching ICC Anti-Doping Code
DUBAI: Bangladeshi right-arm pacemaker Shohidul Islam has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the Anti-Doping Code.
After failing the doping test, the right arm pacemaker was handed a 10-month ban from playing in any form of ICC cricket, retroactively dated to May 28, 2022.
According to the statement, released by the ICC, a banned substance was found in Shohidul’s urine sample amid the ICC’s out-of-competition testing program in Dhaka on March 4, 2022.
“Shohidul had provided a urine sample as part of the ICC out-of-competition testing program in Dhaka on March 4, 2022, which contained clomiphene,” the statement read.
“Clomiphene is classified as a Specified Substance on the WADA Prohibited List and is prohibited both in and out of competition,” he added.
The Bangladeshi pacemaker has been suspended for violating the ICC anti-doping code.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old pacemaker has accepted the violation and also a 10-month suspension from cricket’s governing body for failing to meet the high level of personal responsibility. However, the ICC confirmed that the pacemaker was not intended to enhance his athletic performance through the use of prohibited substances.
“In making the decision, the ICC accepted that Shohidul had not shown significant fault or negligence, as he inadvertently ingested the prohibited substance contained in a drug that had been legitimately prescribed for therapeutic reasons,” the ICC said in a statement. of press.
“Shohidul was able to convince the ICC that he had no intention of enhancing his sports performance through the use of prohibited substances. However, Shohidul accepted that he had failed to meet the high levels of personal responsibility incumbent on him as an international cricketer subject to anti-doping rules,” the statement read.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shohidul’s 10-month ban from all forms of cricket is retroactive from May 28, 2022 and thus he will be eligible to return to cricket on March 28, 2023.
