ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday resumed hearing of the Prime Minister’s disqualification case. The case was heard by a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawaad S Khawaja.
Gohar Nawaz Sindhu presented arguments on behalf of the petition filed by the Insaf Forum. Sindhu said statements given by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar were false. He added that after these statements there was no clarification from either individual.
Justice Khawaja said the court should be provided with the official text of the PM’s National Assembly speech. He stated that the Supreme Court’s research staff was not able to obtain the text of the speech. Justice Khawaja added that there was a procedure for determining if the prime minister was truthful and the apex court based its decisions on evidence.
Justice Dost Muhammad Khan questioned if the tweet by DG ISPR could be considered as evidence. He added that usually the ISPR calls a news conference and are asked questions by journalists. Justice Dost Muhammad Khan further remarked that the DG ISPR’s statement raised questions such as if the statement was on behalf of the Army Chief. According to Justice Khan, the accusations of the prime minister depended on whether witnesses and evidence could be presented.
