Roy's ton propels England to complete clean sweep over Netherlands

AMSTELVEEN: Explosive England starter Jason Roy scored a breakneck century to help the tour team chase the target of 245 runs in 30.1 overs and complete the clean sweep of the Netherlands.

Poised to chase 245, England excelled to victory by eight wickets and 119 balls to spare on the back of Roy’s unbeaten century.

The touring team got off to a great start as the starting pairing of Roy and Phil Salt were scoring at a brisk pace; allowing the team to rack up 80 runs in just the 10th.

Salt, on the other hand, who was looking at his half-century, fell short when Paul van Meekeren castled the former, who scored 49 from 30 balls, laced with nine bounds.

The touring team lost another wicket in the 10th when Dawid Malan bagged a two-ball duck and dropped to 85/2 in 10 overs as a result.

Roy then teamed up with interim captain Joe Buttler and put together an unbeaten 163-run partnership to lead the team to victory in the 31st.

Roy was the team’s leading scorer with his century and was no slouch with 101 in just 86 deliveries, laced with 15 bounds. Buttler, on the other hand, remained unbeaten with his impressive half-century hit of 86 from just 64 balls with the help of seven bounds and five sixes.

For the Netherlands, van Meekeren was the only successful bowler and made two scalps, which came in the same over.

Batting first, the English bowlers completely dominated the Dutch batting line-up; shooting them for 244 in the 50 plus.

Max O’Dowd, Bas de Leede and Scott Edwards led the way with half a century, but were too slow as their strikes failed to propel the home team to a defensible total.

The rest of the batsmen had no answers to the strong attack of the English bowling and fell after scoring for little money. Tom Cooper was the other batsman, who made a significant contribution scoring 33.

For England, David Willey led the way with four wickets while Brydon Carse picked two. David Payne, Liam Livingstone and Adil Rashid each made one scalp.

After their sweep victory over the Netherlands in the series, England replaced Bangladesh from the top of the ICC ODI World Cup Super League.
