ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez made an important statement about India’s all-format skipper Rohit Sharma, stating that the latter seemed scared and confused.
Rohit on Wednesday led India to a second straight win at the ongoing 2022 Asian Cup, after which the defending champions booked their place in the continent’s Super Fours. The victory against Hong Kong was Rohit’s 31st as captain, the second most by an Indian after MS Dhoni.
However, former Pakistan captain Hafeez seemed unimpressed with the Indian captain and questioned his body language as he left for the draw for the Hong Kong clash.
“Look at his expression. This was after the match ended, India won by 40 runs. I’m talking about the body language when Rohit Sharma dropped out of the draw. I thought it was very weak body language. He looked scared and confused. From what I’ve seen during the match, the captaincy is putting a lot of pressure on Rohit Sharma. He is facing a lot of problems,” Hafeez said.
“The IPL did not go well for him and after the IPL, he has not been able to get the flow back in international cricket,” he added.

The former Pakistan all-rounder also claimed that the captaincy is adding a lot of pressure to Rohit. Whereas, India’s supposed new approach is not reflected in their captain’s body language.
“Also, the pressure of leading India. He has been saying a lot of things about the brand of cricket, we will play positively…
this and that, but it is not reflected in the way the team plays,” Hafeez said.
“It’s not reflected in his own body language. It is easy to talk but to do it and show it on the field is difficult”, she maintained.
Hafeez then made an important prediction about Rohit’s future as India’s captain, stating that the latter will not continue to lead the team for long.
“He will not continue as captain for long. The form of him and all the things that are going on with him, from what I can see… I was also a captain, so if you are under pressure when you lead the team. I have seen Rohit on many occasions, he is having fun but now he is not expressing himself. A lot of things are going through his mind, he is under pressure and I feel sorry for him,” Hafeez concluded.
