The year 2020 was a big one for Dwayne Wade. The future Hall of Famer was part of two events that filled him with great pride.
The first is his retirement from the jersey. The year before, Wade retired from the NBA, and now his jersey was being immortalized in the rafters of FTX Arena.
The second was a little closer to home, as her daughter Zaya bravely came out as transgender. A moment that was immediately followed by the full support of the three-time champion.

However, although he accepts his daughter’s trip, not everyone else does. As such, it is difficult for him to send her out of it.

Zaya Wade’s coming out as transgender is brave and inspiring to many. However, it also helped that she had two supportive parents.
Both Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union have been very understanding and supportive of Zaya’s journey thus far. They have even publicly expressed support for her on numerous occasions.
However, the presence of gun violence and the fact that many do not accept it as much as he has left Dwayne Wade quite scared. In fact, he admits that he freaks out every time he sees his daughter leaving the house.
“As blessed as it is for my daughter to have parents who can support her, I am still scared every time she leaves the house.
And not just because of gun violence, but because of the way people perceive it in this world.”
