Hooda, bowlers star as India sink Shan’s Derbyshire in Tour Match

DERBY: The Indian bowlers displayed brilliance before Deepak Hooda starred with a superb half-century in the race chase to power the tour team past Derbyshire by seven wickets in the Tour Match, here on Friday.

Ready to chase a regulation 151, the Indian batsmen showed a combined effort and racked up the loss total of three wickets with 20 balls to spare.

Hooda was the star of the day for India with the bat, as his scorching half-century bolstered India to easily chase the total.

He scored a magnificent 59 from 37 balls, laced with five bounds and two sixes.

Leading batsman Sanju Samson earlier laid a solid foundation for the run chase by scoring a gutsy 38 from 30 balls. Right-handed batsman Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, also contributed a quick 36 from 22 balls with the help of four bounds and a six.

For Derbyshire, Ben Aitchison led the way with two wickets, while Mattie McKiernan could only do one scalp.

Batting first, the home team could only manage to post 150/8 in the allotted 20 overs, as the bowlers dominated their batsmen for most innings.

The home team got off to a dismal start as they lost two fast wickets by just 22 runs in the fourth with their reported Pakistan captain Shan Masood also returning after eight in 11 deliveries.

So the team couldn’t recover from the initial horror and none of their batsmen could manage to score big and beefed up their team to a commendable total. Wayne Madsen was the leading scorer for his team with 28, while Hilton Cartwright followed with 27.

For India, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik bagged two wickets each, while Axar Patel and Venkatesh Iyer struck out one batter each.
