Caitlin Clark Couldn’t Believe Her Historic 3-Pt Shot to Break NCAA Women’s Scoring Record
Everyone knows the impact Steph Curry has had on basketball with his three-point shooting and limitless range. Ever since Curry started taking ridiculous shots on the court, the entire world has followed suit. That being said, only a few can truly do it like Curry, and Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark appears to be one of them.
Building on the momentum of her meteoric rise, she recently broke the NCAA record by surpassing Kelsey Plum to become the leading scorer in women’s NCAA history.
She and she did it with a three-point shot from an incredible distance.
The Iowa player sat down with ‘Good Morning America’ and walked down memory lane to relive the historic shot. In the first minutes of the game against Michigan, the player exploded with a burst of eight points and broke the record with three sensational ones. The journalist interviewed the player while showing the audience exactly where the shot was taken. The point was much closer to the half-court line than the three-point line. Even Clark was amazed by his feat. Here is what she said:
“When I first came out and looked at it, I thought it had to be in the wrong place. It seems to be a lot further back than where I actually shot it.”
Can you blame her? The audacity of the shot reminds us of the comparison with Stephen Curry. He looked like he was in a hurry to get there and confidently approached the Hawkeyes logo to bury it in the net.
He finished the game with 49 points to cap a night etched in the record books.
Clark talked about how he has been preparing for these moments his entire life and that wanting to play in front of such large crowds was always his dream.
Fortunately for her, she was one of the few in the world who managed to achieve it.
Caitlin Clark breaks all-time scoring record
The women’s NCAA record was just one of the many feathers in Caitlin Clark’s cap this season. Not only did she become the leading women’s scorer, but she surpassed Pete Maravich to become the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history.
The NBA Hall of Famer’s record of 3,667 points held 54 years ago now belongs to Clark. Playing against Ohio State, the Iowa player stood alone at the free throw line for a technical foul and made the shot that helped her break the record. The player described the moment to ‘Good Morning America’ and said:
“We are going to play the number two team in the country, on senior night, on our home court. You really can’t write it better. I honestly didn’t realize until everyone started going crazy and it’s great to have so many people in the stands who appreciate women’s basketball but understand its history.”
Caitlin Clark is currently leading her team in the Women’s NCAA Tournament before making the jump to the WNBA. The young phenomenon has put the basketball world on alert through a historic season. Undoubtedly the best long-distance shooter on the college circuit, she is ready to compete with the best players in the world and franchises will be eager to retain her services. Regardless of where she ends up being recruited, the future looks bright for the young superstar.
