Babar, Fawad’s stand tests Sarfaraz XI in scenario-based practice match

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam and left-handed batsman Fawad Alam posted an unbeaten 181-run partnership as their team frustrated the Sarfaraz XI on the first day of the inter-squad scenario-based practice match on Monday.

In the scheduled two-day scrimmage within the scenario-based team, the Babar XI put on quite a show with the bat as the team went 274-3 on day one.

Batting first, left-handed batsman Imam-ul-Haq laid a solid foundation for a decent total with a brilliant half-century before captain Babar took control of the innings himself and showed class before scoring a magnificent century.

Left-handed batsman Fawad, on the other hand, who had a series to forget in the midst of Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan, appeared to have regained his form as he supported his skipper with a valiant half-century.

The duo of Babar and Fawad showed resilience and scored runs in a positive approach.

Babar remained undefeated with his astonishing 111 out of 181 balls with the help of 13 limits, while Fawad stayed in the crease with his gritty 75 late in the day’s game.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Yasir Shah and Salman Ali Agha each claimed a wicket for Sarfaraz XI, while the rest of the bowlers failed to find success.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka to play a two-match test series, scheduled for July 16-28.
