4x NBA champion Stephen Curry’s shocking revelation on winning post Kevin Durant’s exit
Reigning Finals MVP Stephen Curry admits the 2022 championship meant a lot more than the two he won alongside Kevin Durant in 2017-18.
The Golden State Warriors are on top of the NBA once again, winning their fourth title in 8 years. After missing the playoffs for two straight seasons, the Dubs have managed to revive their dynasty. In what many believed, the championship window closed after Kevin Durant’s departure in 2019.
The Warriors organization is a well-oiled machine, boasting an extremely talented roster backed by highly efficient management. The $5.6 billion franchise has one of the best cultures in American sports, and general manager Bob Myers and co-owner Joe Lacob get their flowers.
Speaking of GSW as a team, there’s no question about the fact that Stephen Curry is the face running the place. While the unanimous former MVP had garnered just about every accolade in the book, the lack of a Finals MVP award would cast an asterisk on his all-time great status.

Nonetheless, Curry managed to silence all his critics and naysayers, picking up 3 MVP awards during the 2021-22 season, with the Bill Russell award being the icing on the cake. The four-time champion does not hesitate to recognize the importance of the last title over the previous ones.
Stephen Curry chooses the 2022 championship over the two won alongside Kevin Durant.
Before winning her fourth title, many expressed doubts about Steph Curry’s ability to lead a team. The two-time scoring champion’s declining numbers come into the postseason, and the lack of a clutch gene was cause for concern.
The arrival of Kevin Durant only furthered the earlier notion.
During KD’s 3 seasons with the Warriors, they made it to the Finals every time, winning the chip twice, and Slim Reaper was the Finals MVP every time. Many felt that Curry and company required the services of the OKC MVP in order to get past their arch-rivals in LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
Thus, after Durant’s departure, there was a notion that the Warriors’ era of dominance was over, and people forgot about their championship DNA. However, Coach Kerr and his team let his work do the talking and won the 2022 championship.
In an interview with Ashley Nicole Moss from Sports IllustratedCurry was asked if the 2022 championship meant more than the two of them with KD, to which he replied the following.
“No, I want this one,” the eight-time All-Star said. “No, give me this, all day every day. “
“You don’t find me ugly crying on the pitch for no reason. That raw emotion that came after Game 6 indicated how much it meant to me, how much it meant to our team.
“
“The first (championship), you don’t really know what you’re doing until you do it, and then you’re celebrating. The next two were a kind of validation, trying to continue being champions. But after these last three years and winning that (2022 title), definitely the most special.”
Curry’s performance in the 2022 Finals was nothing short of a spectacle, with the 6-foot-3 guard averaging 31.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 5.0 APG and 2.0 SPG on an impressive 43.7% shooting from 3-point range.
