Nawaz replaces Shahbaz as PML-N President

LAHORE: Mian Nawaz Sharif has been elected unopposed as the President of Pakistan Muslim League-N in place of his younger brother and Punjab’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif after eight years.

PML-N, the second largest political party, held its General Council elections in Lahore today.

The former two-time premier was elected as PML-N’s President.
Earlier, this position was being held by Mian Shahbaz Sharif.

Sartaj Aziz was appointed as PML-N’s General Secretary while Javed Hashmi was reappointed as Senior Vice President.

Raja Zafar ul Haq was also reappointed as PML-N’s Chairman.

Speaking to participants after his election, Nawaz Sharif said that he would play his role to build the country.

Javed Hashmi said that he was not intending to secure any position in the party, but Nawaz Sharif rejected his request.

PML-N activists across the country celebrated Nawaz Sharif’s selection as the party’s president.
