‘Talent wasted, no doubt’ Wasim Akram about Mohammad Asif

KARACHI: Pakistan’s legendary left-arm pacemaker Wasim Akram claimed it was unfortunate for Pakistan that Mohammad Asif was unable to play for long and called the latter a “wasted talent”.

Legendary Pakistani bowler Wasim has weighed in on former right-arm pacemaker Asif, acknowledging that there is no doubt that he is an untapped talent.

“Yes, everyone was enthusiastic about Mohammad Asif. Wasted talent, for sure,” Akram said on the YouTube show. To be honest.

Wasim then praised Asif’s ball control and called the sad conclusion to his career unfortunate for Pakistan.

“But whoever I spoke to, they all said they had seen a bowler like that after decades. The way he controlled the ball, the way he managed to spin the ball both ways…it is very unfortunate for him and for Pakistan as well,” stated Wasim.

“I haven’t seen him in a long time. I have lived in Karachi for 10 years, I rarely go to Lahore. He was a boy. Mistakes happen,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Asif was one of three Pakistani players, including then-Test captain Salman Butt and left-arm pacemaker Mohammad Amir, who were involved in point-fixing in the Lord’s Test in 2010.

Right arm pacemaker Asif was initially given a seven-year ban, but was unable to return to the national team thereafter.
