NBA Fans React to Alex Rodriguez’s Controversially Losing the Opportunity to Own Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves saga has finally come to an end. For months, Marc Lore and MLB legend Alex Rodriguez have been in the news about their desire to purchase a majority stake in the franchise.
In crunch time, the deal ultimately fell through and Glen Taylor issued an official statement to inform the public of the latest developments. The sudden turn of events has left fans scratching their heads as they try to understand what led to this situation.
According to the Official statement Taylor said,
“I will continue to work with Marc, Alex and the rest of the ownership group to ensure our teams have the resources necessary to compete at the highest level on and off the court. The Timberwolves and Lynx are no longer for sale.
”
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the dispute between Taylor and his successors, and how despite the option of an extension to close the deal, the duo were unable to secure it.
Wojnarowski published, “The relationship between Taylor and his successors, Lore and Rodriguez, disintegrated over the past two years.” He also reported that Lore and Rodríguez raised the money for the deal, but were unable to do so within the contractual deadlines.
Now, fans are understandably frustrated because they’ve been waiting for the franchise’s ownership change for months.
One fan sarcastically said that all this proves is that Taylor is fake and not someone to be believed.
Since this has been a disaster over the past few months, one fan suspects this could finally end up in court.
This entire ownership saga has been like a scripted television show, no wonder fans are left in a state of confusion. One fan stated that Taylor saw the money coming with the Wolves’ recent growth and he should have decided to back out of this deal.
A self-proclaimed “biggest fan” of Rudy Gobert also echoed the above sentiment.
Kevin Garnett does not like Taylor at all, and it is a well-known fact in the basketball community. So when the Wolves deal turned ugly for the duo, fans pointed out that they should have listened to KG before taking on Taylor.
Alex Rodríguez was very close to closing the deal
Rodríguez, in his illustrious MLB career earned more than $455 million, so it was very possible that with his influence, wealth and association with businessman Marc Lore, he could close the deal. On top of that, the duo already owned 40% of the franchise that they purchased for $600 million.
The deal that was recently closed would have made them majority owners with an 80% stake and the remaining 20% was supposed to remain in Taylor’s hands.
Last week, Taylor announced, “They had a capital group that was going to come in and put up $300 million, and that capital group withdrew or the NBA denied them.”
Now that things have become so complicated, it would be interesting to see if the duo will retain their 40% ownership in the team and if they will try again for majority ownership.
