WATCH: Magic Johnson Consoles and Motivates a 7-year-old HIV Positive Kid Who is Heartbroken by Her Situation

HIV/AIDS was seen as a death sentence for years before Magic Johnson had it and became the brand’s biggest ambassador in the fight against it.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, when it first broke out in the United States, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was considered a major threat to human life.

The virus usually led to AIDS and, after destroying the immunity of the infected person, eventually caused death.

It was an epidemic due to the lack of studies on the matter that later showed that it was a disease that could not be transmitted without sexual involvement with an infected person or through blood transmission by any other means.

According to the CDC, in 1991 in the US alone, HIV/AIDS was among the top 5 causes of death in the last decade. 31,196 people, which were 1/3 of those infected with HIV, succumbed to death in that period.

With Los Angeles Lakers superstar Magic Johnson announcing his infection with it, the entire country was in more shock and confusion.

Not only the old and the young, but also the children who grew up with him were terrified.

Magic Johnson shared motivation even with young children infected with HIV/AIDS

Children in that period and their parents were so terrified of letting their children play with other children and go to school that they kept them at home without caring about their feelings.

And children infected with HIV were the most affected, both physically and mentally. They had to grow up without friends while trying to prove that they were not a threat to the society that kept a safe distance from them.

As soon as Magic tested positive for the virus, soon announced his retirement on live TV as he talks about his test report with a smile. His confidence in overcoming the disease that was incurable at the time was just incredible.

He even came to this Nickelodeon AIDS special in 1992 to educate American youth. His connection with this adorable 7-year-old girl was the most moving part of the show.

that girl, Hydeia Broadbent (now 38), just like Magic, he fought the virus with all his strength and medical advances and keep on living a healthy life.

She is still a leading activist in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the United States. While Magic has been one of the world’s ambassadors for the cause for some three decades. They both gave each other and the world great motivation for this fight.
