Roy, Salt shine as England blunt Netherlands in a rain-hit second ODI

AMSTELVEEN: Openers Jason Roy and Phil Salt led the charge for England to lead their side to a comfortable six-wicket victory against the Netherlands in the second rain-hit ODI, taking an unassailable 2-0 series lead, here on Sunday.

Poised to chase 236 runs, England batsmen completely dominated the opposition in a match reduced to 41 overs a side when wet outfield delayed the start by nearly three hours.

After scoring the highest ODI total in the previous game, the energetic England team came out into the crease with similar force, generating 100 runs in the 15th.

Roy, who went down badly in the last game, joined the party this time when he shone with a mighty 73-run hit, combined with 13 fours and a six. While Salt eliminated 77 of 54, including 9 limits.

England skipper Eoin Morgan continued his dismal form when he was fired on a duck for the second time in the series.

Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone failed to impress this time around, as Tim Pringle took him out cheaply.

The southpaw duo of Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali, however, crushed the Dutch bowlers again after a mishap in the middle and brought their team home with blistering shots of 36 and 42, respectively.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Dutch team posted a total of 235 with skipper Scott Edwards leading his team with a brilliant 78 on 73 pitches.

Teja Nidamanuru teamed up with Edwards to lift a steady 73-run fifth-wicket partnership when the hosts were struggling at 97/4. Logan van Beek put up a steady punch after David Willey took out Nidamauru and also ran off Edwards. Shane Snater played an undefeated 17-ball cameo.

England now hold an undisputed 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against the hosts, with the decider set to be played on Wednesday.
