Afghanistan beat India 2-0 to lift SAFF Championship 2013 Trophy
The 2011 runners-up Afghanistan downed defending champions India 2-0 in the final of the SAFF Championship 2013 on Wednesday at the Dasharath Rangasala in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Afghanistan’s Mohammad Yousef Kargar’s side scored a goal in each half, with Mustafa Azadzoy having bagged the early goal in the ninth minute, while Afghanistan’s Sandjar Ahmadi sealed the victory with the second strike in the 62nd minute.
Wim Koevermans’ men were meanwhile guilty of not getting on the score-sheet while the decision of starting skipper Sunil Chhetri maybe a bold but questionable one. The Blue Tigers however finish as runners-up for the third time in the South Asian tournament history.
