Democrat Sherrod Brown won the Ohio Senate race. He defeated incumbent Republican Senator Jon Husted.
CNN and NBC News projected the win. The Associated Press called it at 11:10 p.m. Eastern Time.
Brown recaptured the seat two years after losing it. He lost his 32-year Senate seat in 2024 by less than four points. Bernie Moreno beat him then.
A comeback built on data centers
Brown held narrow leads in polls before Election Day. His ads called Husted the face of data centers in Ohio. The message resonated with voters.
President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance visited Ohio late in the race. Their visits did not save Husted.
Husted reached the Senate by appointment. Governor Mike DeWine appointed him after Vance became vice president.
Brown now serves the remaining two years of Vance’s term. He faces voters again in 2028 if he seeks a full six-year term.
Ohio went for Trump by 11 points in 2024. Brown still won it back. His win helped deliver the Senate majority to Democrats.
What is confirmed: Brown won the seat. The Senate majority already went to Democrats. Brown takes office after the election is certified.
