Australia have named fresh-faced squads for their home white-ball series against England, with Mitchell Marsh captaining both the one-day and Twenty20 sides for three ODIs and five T20Is starting on November 13 in Perth.

The selections signal a changing of the guard in Australian white-ball cricket, with selectors resting their champion Test pace attack and handing opportunities to players who have impressed at domestic and Australia A level.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have all been left out, according to the International Cricket Council, as Australia prepare for upcoming World Test Championship series against New Zealand and India. Fellow fast bowler Nathan Ellis will miss the ODI leg while he recovers from a side strain picked up against South Africa in September, although he is named in the T20I squad.

Young fast bowler Mahli Beardman, batter Ollie Peake and all-rounders Jack Edwards and Liam Scott are included in the 14-player ODI squad, according to the ICC, which notes that Beardman and Peake are former Under-19 World Cup players. Selection chair George Bailey praised Beardman’s recent performances for Australia A and said selectors were excited by his return across both formats, while he also praised Scott’s growth over the past 12 to 18 months.

Nikhil Chaudhary, Joel Davies, wicketkeepers Lachlan Shaw and Sam Harper join the T20I squad, with Harper and Shaw the two uncapped players in either squad, according to AFP. Jake Fraser-McGurk also returns to the T20I squad.

Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly will all play the ODIs but skip the T20I leg, the ICC said, leaving further openings for new faces against England.

The announcement comes as Australian cricket enters a period of transition, days after Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from international cricket at 38.

Australia play three home ODIs against England between November 13 and 18, followed by five T20Is, with the first T20I in Melbourne on November 21.

Both squads are confirmed, and the series begins with the first ODI in Perth on November 13. Final playing teams will be named closer to each match.
