Islamabad (APP): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on early Thursday has apprehended suspect wanted in the murder of Maulana Azam Tariq from Islamabad airport.
The suspect identified as Syed Sibtain Kazmi was arrested when he was attempting to board a UK-bound flight. The officers said that his name was not included in the Exit Control List (ECL).
An amount of one million rupees (1,000,000) was declared as the head money by the government for the detention of Syed Sibtain Kazmi.
It is pertinent to mention here that Maulana Azam Tariq was assassinated in October 2003 on the outskirts of Islamabad when he was returning from Jhang.
The banned outfit now operates freely under the name of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jama’at (ASWJ).
Tariq, the then MNA, was gunned down along with three of his guards and a driver in the limits of Islamabad’s Golra police in 2003, while returning from his constituency, Jhang, to attend a National Assembly session.
