Khyber Supermarket Blasts: Injured Journalist Shafiullah Expired

PESHAWAR: A journalist who was injured in the twin explosions in Peshawar’s Khyber Supermarket succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Shafiullah was visiting the area when two powerful blasts ripped through the marketplace in Peshawar just before midnight on June 11. He received third degree burns and succumbed to his injuries today.

At least 34 people were killed and over 90 injured, among them two other television journalists and a senior police officer.

The other journalists that died in the blast are Abid Naveed and Asfandyar.

Shafiullah was from North Waziristan and worked as a trainee for an English newspaper in Peshawar.

His body has been taken to Miranshah for burial.

Earlier this week, a report titled ‘Getting Away With Murder’ published by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) ranked Pakistan as the 10th most dangerous country in the world for journalists.
